Sample Projects

The summer associate program at Stoel Rives LLP is our most important source for attorney hiring. Approximately 20-25 law students are hired each year for summer work in our offices in Portland, Seattle, Salt Lake City and Boise. Although the majority have completed their second year of law school, we do hire a few who have completed only one year. It is our practice to rely on the summer associate program to satisfy the majority of the firm's entry level hiring needs. The summer program at Stoel Rives is consistently regarded as one of the best in the West.

The purpose of Stoel Rives’ summer associate program is to provide students with a realistic view of practicing law at Stoel Rives. Our summer associates work on real projects for real clients. They meet with clients and attend strategy sessions, contract negotiations, closings and board meetings. They draft documents, write briefs and help prepare for depositions, trials and arbitrations. The project load can sometimes be intense, but our summer associates seem to appreciate this fast pace and view it largely as a function of the quality of the projects that are available to them.
